goods for good

In 2006, Melissa Kushner founded goods for good (GFG) with a vision that every child in the world deserves the opportunity to achieve. Since then, GFG mastered the strategic provision of goods to Malawian community centers, reaching over 70,000 orphans and vulnerable children. Now GFG is making those same centers financially sustainable, by launching small on-site businesses that generate income and fund orphan care programs for education, health, and nutrition. These businesses, which include chicken farms, agriculture enterprises, and tailoring co-ops, create jobs, stimulate the local economy, and ensure Malawi’s children have every opportunity to thrive.

Melissa Kushner

Executive Director

In 2005, Melissa’s position at the United Nations took her to Malawi, an African country of only 15 million people but with more than one million orphans. Struck by the orphan crisis and the altruistic and entrepreneurial spirit of local community leaders, Melissa founded goods for good. Melissa set up two offices in New York City and in the capital city of Malawi, Lilongwe. She spent her first year as the Executive Director of goods for good in Malawi traveling from village to village and forging partnerships with the local, Malawian-run community centers that are now the foundation of goods for good’s success. Eight years later, goods for good is empowering these local community centers to care for over 70,000 orphans and children in need, by providing goods and building businesses. As a result, these children receive the strong support system that is so necessary for their success and achievement.
