Spencer Gerrol

Spencer Gerrol is the Founder and CEO of SPARK Experience Design, a full service digital agency focused on user experience. His work draws on cognitive psychology to leverage how people think and act to create intuitive, engaging, and persuasive designs. In his role, Spencer oversees SPARK’s team of some of the most talented thought-leaders in the field while providing strategic services to his clients. Spencer is also recognized as an expert in the area of cross-cultural design. Most recently, he spearheaded user research projects in multiple countries across Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East for Voice of America, which led to a comprehensive understanding of cultural differences in news consumption, social media, and mobile web usage. Prior to founding SPARK, Spencer was Executive Director at Human Factors International, a large multi-national consulting firm where he guided strategic growth, managed teams of usability professionals locally and globally, taught courses, and trained in-house user experience groups at numerous organizations. Spencer has conducted research for and designed over one hundred websites, applications, and products. He regularly gives speeches and teaches classes and seminars across the country at Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, universities, and professional conferences. Spencer received the Best Solution Award for his work with the State of California. Spencer was named a Young Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum as an entrepreneur with a global platform to shape the future and sits on the Executive Committee for the DC Global Shaper Hub, where he serves as Director of Communications. Over the past few years Spencer has traveled to more than twenty countries across five continents for both professional and philanthropic ventures. He is a founding board member of 50/50, a non-profit microfinance organization that helps small entrepreneurs in developing countries start businesses and find access to funding and training. Spencer is also a leader in the Jewish community, both in Washington and internationally. He is a member of the Israel and Overseas Committee for the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, where he contributes to decisions about budget allocations to programs in Israel and around the world, and he participated in the American Joint Distribution Committee's Completing the Journey program, during which he traveled to Ethiopia and Israel to help the remaining ancient Ethiopian Jews fulfill their dream of immigrating to Israel. Spencer served on the Jewish Federation Young Leadership Board and the Birthright Israel NEXT Advisory Committee and recently led the Birthright Israel Alumni Leadership Mission to Israel. He has also been nominated for “Jewish Guy of the Year” by GathertheJews.com
