Empact Legacy Event FAQs

What is the difference between the Empact Showcase and Empact100?

The Empact Showcase features companies in the US run by young entrepreneurs age 35 and under with at least $100,000 annual revenue. Any participating company meeting this criteria is included in the annual Empact Showcase.

The Empact100 is a subset of the Empact Showcase companies, chosen by the Empact Academy, which highlights their selection of the best 100 Showcase companies.

The Empact Showcase is not an awards program. It’s a celebration of the power and diversity of young entrepreneurs in the US. The goal of the Empact Showcase is to highlight the power of young entrepreneurs and the important role that they play in solving some of the world's most pressing issues. We’re able to do that as a result of your hard work as an entrepreneur and your participation in this program.

As a result, any company in the Empact Showcase -- not just the companies in the Empact100 -- is invited to attend the Empact Showcase Legacy Event at the United Nations in October.

Who is invited? My company was not selected for the Empact100. Can I still attend the event at the United Nations?

Absolutely! Last year, we were just able to invite the founders from the Empact100 companies (those selected by the Academy as the top 100 in the Showcase). The main reason was due to capacity restrictions at the White House. This year, we've moved to the United Nations for several reasons (see below). One great benefit of moving to the UN is that we no longer have space restrictions!

As a result ALL Empact Showcase company founders are invited to attend the Empact Legacy Event regardless of whether your company was selected for the Empact100.

What is the deadline to register?

We encourage all entrepreneurs in the Showcase to register by Friday, September 27 so we can get your names cleared with security at the UN.

What is the cost to register for the event?

We’ve set aside a certain number of tickets at various pricing tiers and will make the lowest cost tickets available on a first come first serve basis. As tickets on the lower tiers are claimed, those ticket prices will no longer be available.

Currently the registration price is $445, but there are only a handful of tickets available at that tier and we expect the tier to raise by Friday, September 20th.

I’m very cost-conscious and it’s hard for me to step away from my business right now. What value can I expect to get for the registration fee and the 2 days?

Your registration fee covers a portion of the hard expenses required to put on the event. This fee covers all meals, receptions and special activities during the event.

The small group setting allows for the opportunity to build relationships with featured guests like Kay Koplowitz and Jeff Hoffman, media outlets and reporters, and other Empact Showcase company founders. As the event draws closer, we are continuing to build out even more amazing experiences and opportunities.

In addition to the activities that will happen at the event, your participation involves you to go deeper within Empact’s network, which has led to large opportunities for past participants including media and speaking opportunities, opportunities to sit on councils and to represent the US abroad, and recognition in other outlets such as Wall Street Journal Small Business Influencer, Inc 30 Under 30, Crain’s 40 Under 40 and more!

If you’re questioning whether or not you should come, we recommend you talk to an entrepreneur who has participated in the past. Empact events have a unique culture created through carefully curating the attendees. EVERYONE you meet at the event will be a successful entrepreneur, and as a result, conversations lead to great collaborations and friendships.

We’d love to make it cheaper, but for us quality is important. We have kept event sponsorship at a minimum to ensure the culture and intimate nature of the event.

I have a lot of votes. Why wasn’t my company selected for the Empact100?

There is one award called the People's Choice Award, which is given to the companies that receive the most votes.

The rest of the honors (Empact100 and top category awards) are selected by the Empact Academy based on a variety of factors such as revenue, # employees, social impact, growth over the past year, & innovativeness.

People’s Choice voting ends on October 4 at which time the 5 companies with the most votes will be named as the People’s Choice Winners and recognized on stage during the Legacy Event.

What is the event agenda?

You can find details about the tentative agenda, as well as answers to all your travel questions at: http://www.empactshowcase.com/legacytravel

I’d love to bring my executive team, spouse, friend, etc. What is the policy around that?

Registration is currently open only for Empact Showcase company founders. We do this for two reasons:

  • To give each company the chance to be represented at the event
  • To maintain an atmosphere where ANYONE you meet is a successful entrepreneur
Should space allow, guest tickets to the recognition ceremony portion of the event may be opened up to guests. In the event there is space, an announcement will be sent out to inform you.

My company was a finalist for one of the category awards. When will the category winners be announced?

Category honorees will be announced and celebrated during the celebration ceremony at the United Nations during the afternoon of October 24. Awards will be presented to those in attendance by members of the Academy and other special guests.

Why did you move from the White House to the United Nations?

For the past two years, we’ve held the event at the White House & US Chamber of Commerce and have decided to move to NY to the United Nations Headquarters for several reasons:

  • In December 2012, the UN released a statement saying that entrepreneurship is a key pillar to meeting the UN Millenium Development Goals. As a result, they recognize that to help solve global problems, we must tap into the entrepreneurial spirit and turn the challenges of this generation into opportunities. They are partnering with us to celebrate the fact that entrepreneurs on the Empact Showcase are powerful examples of the significant impact that can be made by young people around the world.
  • The Empact Showcase is going global and we wanted a venue that also encompassed this expansion.
  • The United Nations has more space so we can include more successful entrepreneurs in this seminal event.
